FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Is my location appropriate for beehives?

After connecting with Beaumiel for Private Label Beekeeping, an experienced beekeeper will schedule a visit to your property to assess its suitability for hosting hives. During this visit, we will provide recommendations on the best location, the ideal number of hives, and whether beekeeping is the right fit for your space and lifestyle.

While beekeeping does not require a large amount of space, there are a few important considerations:

  • Property Size and Use: If you have a small yard that is frequently used by children and pets, it may not be ideal to share that space with beehives, as it can increase the chance of interactions.

  • Use of Pesticides: If you use chemical treatments for mosquitoes, ticks, or weeds (even some organic treatments), beekeeping may not be suitable, as these substances can harm or kill bees.

  • Allergies to Bee Stings: If a family member is allergic to bee stings, we do not recommend installing beehives on your property. While bee stings are rare, the presence of hives may slightly increase the likelihood of a sting occurring.

If you are unsure, our initial consultation will help determine if your property is a good candidate for beekeeping while ensuring the safety of your family and the health of the bees.

2. Is it safe to have bees in my backyard or business space?

Yes, with the right care, it is safe to have a hive in your backyard. We work with a species of honeybee known for its extremely docile nature, and many of our hosts are pleasantly surprised by how gentle the bees are during our visits. It is important to remember that bees generally only sting as a last resort when they feel threatened, as they die after stinging.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, we provide guidance during each visit, including reminders to avoid swatting at bees, keep a respectful distance from the hive, and limit the use of machinery like lawnmowers near the bees. With these practices in place, hosting a hive can be a safe, rewarding way to support your local ecosystem.

3. What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Zelle, ACH (direct deposits) and checks.

4. What is your cancellation policy?

If you decide that you no longer wish to have beehives on your property, we kindly ask for 60 days’ notice to allow us to plan for the safe removal of the hive and equipment, and to rehome your bees. There is no cost for removal, but please note that we do not issue refunds for beehives or equipment once installed.

Additionally, we do not offer refunds for beekeeping services, except under extenuating circumstances, which are determined solely at Beaumiel’s discretion. If you have concerns about your service, please reach out to us directly, and we will work with you to find a thoughtful resolution whenever possible.

5. Can I harvest my own honey?

Honey harvesting is included as part of your Private Label Beekeeping service, ensuring it is done safely for both you and your bees. If you have selected the Flow Hive option, we are happy to show you how to harvest honey yourself. However, please note that self-harvesting may affect the quantity of honey you collect and, if not done correctly, can damage the equipment or disturb the hive.

For the well-being of your bees and to ensure the highest quality honey, we strongly encourage you to allow our experienced team to handle the harvesting for you.

6. Where do the bees come from?

At Beaumiel, our goal is to raise resilient bees that are well-adapted to our local environment. To support this, we avoid importing bees from out of state and instead split our healthiest colonies to propagate strong, locally adapted genetics.

7. Can I watch my hives being inspected?

Absolutely! At Beaumiel, we love sharing the wonder of honey bees with our hosts. During each visit, our beekeepers are there not only to care for your colony but also to educate and inspire anyone interested in learning more about the fascinating inner workings of the hive. You are always welcome to watch and ask questions as we tend to your bees.

8. I have more questions?
